The import of natural gas (NG) in Cyprus is a project of national, cross-border and European importance and for this reason it has been included in the Projects of Common Interest of the EU.
This unique project helps reduce the effects of the energy isolation of Cyprus and help it connect to the trans-European energy and transport networks.
As part of the wider infrastructure design challenges, ETYFA required support identifying risks and mitigations associated with the unique and complex undertaking.
In collaboration with Lloyds Register, we were tasked with providing local BMT REMBRANDT simulation support to the navigation risk assessment and the wider engineering processes for the LNG import terminal.
A portable BMT REMBRANDT simulator was deployed locally to enable all Cypriot stakeholders, including local pilots, design engineers and maritime authorities to participate in and witness first hand navigation assessments in the form of interactive workshops.
Additionally a number of navigation simulation videos were produced to support the wider stakeholder engagement.
Our navigation risk assessments successfully supported stakeholder engagement and the wider understanding of mitigations.
Construction of the import terminal started in July 2020 with expected completion in July 2023.
We have secured multiple new licence contract wins for BMT REMBRANDT navigation simulator system, with cruise lines including Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Seabourn in North America and P&O Cruises Australia. A total of 39 cruise ships will now use our maritime simulator.
Vitol Tank Terminal International BV is involved in the provision of bulk liquid storage facilities. BMT was appointed as Project Management Consultant (PMC) for a terminal expansion project.
