Harland & Wolff, major UK shipyard with over 100 years of shipbuilding and ship-repair heritage, is one of the only two UK drydocks capable of handling the new generation of large container ships exceeding 280m in length.
It’s 80-acre Belfast shipyard has been developed to be able to take some of the world’s largest vessels, offering two of the largest drydocks in Europe and direct deep water access in the Port of Belfast.
They sought a field proven navigation simulation tool that provides a platform to process and display the highest possible levels of granularity in bathymetric and other environmental data in order to independently and critically evaluate the readiness of its docks to accept very large cruise ships and naval vessels.

BMT REMBRANDT used S-100 level data to simulate the navigation and precision under keel clearance of large cruise ships and the UK Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier in the navigation channel and including entry to the dry dock.
They are now using the BMT REMBRANDT outputs as part of discussions with leading cruise operators and have been invited to compete for up to three dry dockings of the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier over the next ten years plus emergency dockings as required.
