Our customer was keen to understand how human behaviours could be best presented within virtual applications, systems and software.
Our team conducted comprehensive research from the behavioural sciences literature, identifying aspects of personality and behavioural theories and models that were deemed relevant and pertinent in the development of virtual applications, systems and software. Our team also explored specific behavioural states such as aggression and considered how this could be reflected within specific virtual environments.
The importance of social context and situational cues as determinants of human behaviour was also explored, as well as theories and models of individual behaviours within group settings, and group (collective) behaviours. Human biases, and how these can manifest within a virtual environment were considered.
Our work identified the extent of the interdependencies between individuals, social context, and situational cues on behavioural responses.
A host of recommendations pertaining to personality and behaviour in the context of developing virtual applications, systems and software was provided. This set out a framework by which to maximise the realism of human behaviours within virtual environments, whilst minimizing the likelihood of encountering systemic biases.
The customer was also provided with suggestions for further exploration and research.
