Project Involvement
Loy Yang Mine uses four bucket wheel excavators, each with a dedicated face conveyor and downstream conveyor systems, taking coal to power stations and waste to overburden dumps. Loy Yang plays a critical role in supplying two coal-fired power stations (totaling 3000MW). Recently the mine had grown to a size where it was practical to re-arrange the conveyors at the bottom of the mine and start dumping overburden at the bottom.
We undertook the conceptual and detail design of the new trunk conveyor L400, and new overburden conveyors L702 and L705, plus modifications to other conveyors. The design permitted major parts of the new structures to be built before the changeover outage and minimized the outage work.
The new conveyor structures were designed and detailed so that they could be made in either Australia or elsewhere. AGL chose to procure the steelwork in China, and we provided technical support throughout the manufacturing. The new conveyors were completed and commissioned in in March 2017.
We carried out a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Exhaust Dispersion Study for Technip Malaysia for the ICHTHYS Field Development Project Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, to be located in the Browse Basin off Western Australia, approximately 440 km north of Broome and 800 km southwest of Darwin.
We were invited by a global financing and development institution to conduct a cumulative risk assessment of its three major industrial facilities in Nansha, Pearl River Delta and to review its industrial hazard risk management system.
We were engaged to prepare designs to more than double the output of an existing barge loading facility in Kalimantan, Indonesia. The facility handles a number of different grades of coal to deliver a specified blend to each barge.
Together with Samsung C&T Corporation and Anatara Koh Pte Ltd, we provided offshore engineering consultancy and construction services for the Singapore LNG terminal secondary and tertiary berths at Jurong Island.
