Periodic excavation of sand is required to maintain access to the land side of the Lancelin Public Jetty for the local Western Rock Lobster fishing industry.
The excavation site varies between campaigns but typically extends approximately 100 m north from the foreshore of the public jetty. Up to 12,000 m3 of sand is removed each year using a long-reach excavator and associated land-based plant, with the excavated material transported to a number of available disposal sites.
BMT’s role included the full range of project management, from the drafting of the tender documents to on-site supervision.
BMT carries out an annual assessment of dredging requirements, identification of preferred disposal sites, project reporting and project analysis.
Maintenance dredging has not been undertaken at Lancelin since 2009 as hydrographic surveys have indicated that accretion has greatly reduced and depths remain navigable, however works may be undertaken in future years should they be required.
We were engaged by the Bunbury Port Authority in 2004 and again in 2007 to manage maintenance dredging works undertaken in the harbour and channel areas of the Port.
We were appointed by GPA to manage all aspects of the dredging works, from the preparation of drawings and contract documents through to 24 hour supervision on board the dredge for the duration of the project.
We have worked to provide an integrated service for the management of the DoT's Maintenance Dredging Program since 2000.
We have been involved in a variety of tasks related to the expansion of facilities at Cape Lambert in order to increase the iron ore output capacity at the port.
