In recent years, Vietnam has risen to become the new manufacturing powerhouse in Asia due to its relatively highly-skilled labour force, open government policy as well as being a lower-cost alternative to China, where costs are rapidly rising. This has led to a proliferation of new industrial developments nationwide.
In this instance, BMT was tasked to review and assess the master plan for a new logistics park in South Vietnam, including the logistics park facilities, industrial and manufacturing clusters, transport connections, land use planning and construction cost.
A team of BMT consultants worked on-site to assess the Park as a model for investors and commercial real estate developers desiring to construct and manage modern logistics facilities in Vietnam. BMT shared international practices on industrial parks to the domestic industry and conducted a detailed analysis of the current state of multimodal transportation infrastructure and logistics systems in Southern Vietnam.
The team also consulted with various stakeholders such as the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport and major industry players in Vietnam which provided an in-depth understanding of the key issues, success factors and insights for the logistics park in Vietnam.
BMT formulated the design elements of the proposed Industrial Park including location of the barge terminals, road and rail system connection, intermodal road and rail terminal and container depot together with the zoning plan and product mix based on the current Vietnamese economy and comparative advantages. Furthermore, an assessment of the overall cost of investment and construction was carried out.
BMT undertook a study to review the current regional industrial sectors and manufacturing facilities and propose future business targets, land use requirement and infrastructure design for the development of a new Integrated Port, Industrial and Logistics Estate.
