BMT was awarded a contract by the London Borough of Waltham Forest to build a surface water flood risk model covering the entire Borough. This contract builds on a history of working for Waltham Forest, and other Lead Local Flood Authorities within London and the South East.
BMT recognised as an Environment and Climate solutions consultancy with expertise in flood risk management, has an established relationship with the Borough having delivered hydraulic modelling and flood alleviation projects since 2016. This is however the first time we will build a surface water flood risk model covering the entire Borough, taking a catchment-based approach to ensure that all surface water connections amongst various flow routes and sub-catchments are captured.
We are hoping that the project will result in the addition of new physical interventions within the Borough such as SuDS, Natural Flood Management, wetlands and improved urban drainage. These will help to alleviate surface water flooding for the Borough and its residents. With the solutions we will propose we aim to achieve wider environmental benefits, these will include creating new habitat, improving biodiversity, increasing amenity value and other various natural amenities.
This contract was successfully procured via the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) Management Consultancy Framework 3 (MCF3). As a supplier of the framework BMT has been named and selected as a high-quality and cost-effective consultancy to the CCS.
Stephen Henry, Principle Engineer BMT, said:
“We are very pleased to be working with the London Borough of Waltham Forest again. After contributing to flood alleviation projects for various areas in the Borough we are delighted that we can now support with flood alleviation in a range of new areas across the Borough with this significant project, which is of great importance to the safety and welfare of its residents and will significantly contribute to the wider environment."
