Judging the LEGO Masters League

The First LEGO League is a global science and technology challenge for teams of students aged nine to sixteen, and the Wessex competition on 15 January 2020 saw schools from across the South West compete against each other.

17 January 2020

Our Senior Engineers Andrew Shirley and Simon Newman judged the teams on their ability to research a given topic, create a presentation and design, build and programme a LEGO robot to solve a series of missions. The concept for this year's competition was 'City Shaper' and was themed around architecture and the spaces in which we live.

Andrew said:

"It was such a great day. The LEGO League makes STEM subjects fun and accessible as the students get hands-on experience with robotics and designing innovative solutions.
The enthusiasm, innovation and standard of work from the schools taking part was amazing and Simon and I were extremely impressed with what we saw. A huge congratulations to the winners, but it was an extremely difficult decision and all those taking part should be really proud of their work."
