BMT plays a key role in the Blue Economy CRC

BMT was pleased to be invited to attend the Inaugural Participant Workshop of the Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre (CRC). The workshop took place over two days from 29 to 30 January 2020 at the Hobart Function and Conference Centre. BMT was represented at the workshop by its sustainable marine energy expert Chris Shearer and head of business development and climate change adaptation David Rissik.

BMT was invited to be part of the Industry Panel session on Day 2, and presented “Problems and Challenges faced by Industry Operating in the Blue Economy”. Chris discussed BMT’s approach to the offshore challenges of environment, aquaculture, metocean, engineering, support vessels, marine operations, reliability and data management.

“BMT is playing a key role representing industry and is leading two important Scoping Studies which will be announced soon. BMT will also be deeply involved in a number of upcoming General Projects as the Blue Economy CRC research program kicks off. The breadth of BMT’s experience and skills enable us to participate in projects across all five streams of the CRC,” said Chris Shearer, Offshore Renewable Energy Lead at BMT.

The Blue economy CRC will deliver a step-change in Australian seafood and energy production that will see Australia become a major producer of high quality, safe and sustainable marine products. The multidisciplinary and collaborative CRC will deliver innovation in integrated offshore Australian seafood and energy systems that are economically viable, environmentally accredited and socially acceptable.
Over a ten-year period, the CRC will create the new knowledge, technology and future leaders to deliver a transformational change that will move seafood and marine renewable energy production from the coast to the open ocean.
