For the last several years, oceangoing cruise liners have been operating at near 100% capacity, carrying over 27 million passengers in 2018 alone. Although still subject to the whims of the economic cycle, it’s safe to say that the industry has gone from strength to strength, with growth being limited more by capacity than demand.
But no matter the numbers, the top priority for cruise lines is the safety and comfort of the guests who sail with them. A large part of that safety is dependent on the proper training of captains and crews and much of that training happens in maritime simulations and virtual environments. So when some of the world’s biggest and most prestigious cruise lines needed a navigation simulator that met their exacting standards, they naturally turned to us.
Beginning in March this year, we partnered with world-class customers such as Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Seabourn in North America and P&O Cruises Australia to provide cutting-edge solutions for maritime simulation and virtual training that would support their operations around the world.
That solution is BMT REMBRANDT – a uniquely capable navigation simulator system that delivers the highest standards of manoeuvring simulation. Enhanced with high-fidelity 3D scene reconstruction from multiple views, the system can generate visual reconstructions and offers a “pause and take control” feature that opens new and exciting opportunities for state-of-the-art reflective training.
BMT REMBRANDT is fully scalable, operating in full mission modes as a fully certified DNV GL-Class A, B, C and S simulator whether performing on a laptop or desktop. Not only does it offer scalable ship bridge simulation and training including complex shipping manoeuvres in shallow, hydrodynamic waters, but it also provides training and assessment for the entire crew and even ship-to-ship transfers.
With multiple contract wins, the orders for our BMT REMBRANDT maritime simulator will support cruise lines on more than 39 cruise ships and we’re looking forward to supporting these respected brands as they make memories for millions more passengers in the years to come.
