Tom Matthewson leads BMT’s Environmental Services capability in the UK and Europe.
The Environmental Services team at BMT has a group specialising in environmental management and sustainability, flood and coastal risk and resilience, and EIA and permitting. Tom is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and Principal EIA Assessor of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
Tom has over 28 years’ experience in marine environmental assessment studies for a wide range of public and private sector projects and programmes, including a number of coastal, estuary and river flood risk strategies. He has a particular interest in ports and other marine infrastructure, and flood and coastal resilience, and advising clients in these sectors on how to meet their goals whilst minimising their impacts on the natural and human environment.

Principal Scientist
Dr. Duncan Kitts is a principal scientist and UK/Europe lead for TUFLOW, with 18 years’ experience in hydraulic modelling and flood risk management.
Duncan has worked in many different aspects of flood risk and erosion management with a particular focus on hydraulic modelling including fluvial and pluvial flood modelling, integrated urban drainage as well as flood forecasting, water quality and sediment transport modelling. Hen has spent the last 12 years working for various flood modelling software houses and has provided training to a range of governmental agencies and technical consultants internationally.
Duncan has a PhD in hydraulic modelling and catchment flood restoration from the University of Southampton which forms part of the evidence base towards a policy change towards natural flood management.

Richard has over 13 years’ experience as an engineering and hydraulic modelling consultant. In this time, he has worked on a variety of different projects, including Drainage Area Plans (DAPs), Development Impact Assessments (DIAs), Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and Surface Water Management Plans (SWMPs), to name but a few.
