This year, the Best of BMT showcases some of our most innovative and exciting projects, collaborations and partnerships from throughout 2020. Although we have faced a difficult year in the face of a global pandemic, our people have continued to immerse themselves in solving and delivering against our customers’ most complex challenges.
Most importantly, we feature our people and their passion, motivation and drive to provide solutions for our customers that deliver the greatest benefits and value.
Whether it’s seagrass restoration projects in Australia; our UK University collaboration to explore cleaner power systems; the promotion of STEM careers to women and young girls; our hurricane response solutions for oil and gas operators in the US, or an innovative new circular economy concept that supports building to reduce environmental footprint, you can read about our projects and people here.
Commissioned by Sydney Water and the City of Sydney, we have led the water efficiency project for the City’s Sustainable Destination Partnership to find water savings and related insights in iconic accommodation and entertainment venues in the city’s central business district.
In recognition of a continuing partnership between BMT and the University of Exeter, the University has appointed Jake Rigby, BMT’s Research and Development lead in the UK, as an Honorary Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering.
Working with the London Borough of Enfield in the UK, we have been designing and securing funding for a multi-phase project to mitigate flooding that will impact 200+ properties in the borough.
Offshore floating and fixed platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and elsewhere operate in a complex environment. These structures are highly susceptible to wind gusts, choppy waves, loop currents, and extreme weather such as hurricanes.
After joining the Board in 2019, our business analyst, Hazel Atkins, became Chair of the WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) Young Professionals board (WYPB) in January 2020.
We were delighted to be recently re-awarded the consultancy support services for the Western Australian Department of Transport Dredging Program for Coastal Facilities and Management Areas.
Our team in Australia was pivotal in pioneering a novel method for seagrass transplantation which has now been implemented on several projects around the coast of South Western Australia.
We have been working with the London Borough of Waltham Forest in the UK to develop the design of a wetlands area in a very densely populated and urbanized area of North East London.
BMT earned three finalist nods and took home the Digital Award at this year’s Energy Industries Council (EIC) virtual awards ceremony for our asset monitoring platform, BMT DEEP.
BMT wins the Autonomous Navigation International Challenge
We are working hand-in-hand with the community of the Isles of Scilly to develop future vessels that will provide essential life-line travel and freight services to the island for years to come.
MATE, our vessel inspection technology and marine fleet management platform, reached a significant milestone in 2020, with more than 2,000 surveys conducted.
The US Navy recently commissioned BMT to conduct industry studies to advance the design of the next generation of US Navy Auxiliary General Ocean Surveillance Ship (T-AGOS(X)).
Sea lice infestation is a major issue facing aquaculture in Scotland. Productivity loss due to lice infestations has a major impact on the industry, which contributes £1.8 billion annually to the Scottish economy. We are very excited to be part of this programme and recognised as one of the Seafood Innovators in the UK.
We have been awarded a research project valued at $750K by PHMSA with industry co-funding from the Colonial Pipeline Company. The project is focused on developing liquid pipeline physical trial data from testing at our facility in Ottawa, Canada, to then use this data to validate enhanced modelling tools.
We developed an online and clickable spatial asset vulnerability tool using ArcGIS storyboard to support internal Seqwater capacity building on understanding climate change risks of built assets.
